Salmon Calcitonin Nasal Spray

Miacalcic® (Salmon Calcitonin Nasal Spray) is a salmon calcitonin nasal spray originally researched and developed by Novartis Pharma in Switzerland. Miacalcic® (Salmon Calcitonin Nasal Spray) is absorbed through the submucosal capillaries of the nasal mucosa. Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of the biological activity of osteoclasts, reduction of the number of osteoclasts, prevention of bone loss, and improvement of bone mass. Additionally, it exhibits dual analgesic effects, making it frequently prescribed for the treatment of various indications related to osteoporosis, osteoporotic pain, and the prevention of acute bone loss. 

【Generic Name】Salmon Calcitonin Nasal Spray

【Indications】

• Bone pain associated with osteolysis and/or osteopenia.

• Osteoporosis in patients for whom alternative treatments are not suitable.

- Early and late postmenopausal osteoporosis

- Senile osteoporosis

- Secondary osteoporosis, e.g. secondary to corticosteroid therapy or immobilization

To prevent progressive bone loss, ensure intake of calcium and vitamin D according to individual needs during treatment.

• Patients with Paget's disease of bone unresponsive to alternative treatments or unsuitable for other therapies, especially those with:

- Bone pain

- Neurological complications

- Increased bone turnover as indicated by elevated serum alkaline phosphatase and urinary hydroxyproline excretion

- Progressively expanding areas of bone lesion

- Incomplete or recurrent fractures

• Hypercalcemia caused by the following conditions:

- Tumor-induced osteolysis secondary to breast cancer, lung cancer, renal cancer, multiple myeloma or other malignant neoplastic diseases

- Hyperparathyroidism, immobilization, or vitamin D intoxication

- Patients requiring long-term treatment of chronic hypercalcemia should continue until response to definitive treatment of the underlying disease is apparent.

• Neurodystrophic disorders (synonymous with algodystrophy or Sudeck's disease) caused by various etiological and predisposing factors such as post-traumatic painful osteoporosis, reflex dystrophy, shoulder-arm syndrome, causalgia, drug-induced neurotrophic disorders.

【Specifications】2ml: 4400IU, 14 sprays, 200IU per spray

The active substance is calcitonin (salmon, synthetic). The biological activity of calcitonin salmon nasal spray is stated in International Units (IU).  Each 2 ml bottle of Miacalcic nasal spray contains at least 14 metered doses of 200 IU.
